Your car is ready when you land
There are direct flights to İzmir from many cities in Germany and Europe; international flights arrive at the international terminal of İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Our office is on the arrivals floor of the international terminal. After passport control and baggage claim, come to our office, pick up your car and drive off. If you enter your flight number when booking, we track your flight; if your plane is delayed, your car waits for you.
Duray Rent a Car has been renting cars at İzmir Airport since 1997. Most of our guests are expatriate Turks spending their summer holidays at home, holidaymakers on the Aegean coast and business travellers.
Which documents do I need?
- Driving licence: Driving licences from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland and other European countries are written in the Latin alphabet and are therefore sufficient to rent a car in Turkey. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, you also need an international driving permit.
- Age and licence: You must be at least 21 and have held a licence for at least 3 years. For some models the minimum age is 22 or 23.
- ID: Your ID card if you are a Turkish citizen; otherwise your passport.
- Credit card: You need a credit card in the renter's name. Debit cards (EC card, Girocard) and cash are not accepted.
- Boarding pass: May be requested for airport pick-ups; keep it with you.
If your licence shows code 78, you may only drive automatic cars. In that case choose an automatic car when booking; for options, see our automatic car rental page.
Deposit and payment
At pick-up, a hold of 5,000 to 10,000 TL is placed on your credit card depending on the car group. If there are no extra charges, the hold is released after the rental; depending on your bank it can take 5–15 business days. Make sure your card limit covers the rental and the deposit.
No prepayment required. Book now and pay the rental by credit card at the office when you pick up the car. All prices include VAT.
Prices in euros
Our website is also available in German and English. Choose euros, dollars or pounds in the currency selector at the top of the page and prices are shown in that currency. Prices vary by date, length of rental and car group; to see the current price, simply choose your dates in the form at the top of the page.
Driving in Turkey
- Speed limits: For cars: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on rural roads, 110 km/h on dual carriageways, 120 km/h on motorways. If a sign shows a different limit, follow the sign.
- Tolls: Motorway and bridge tolls are paid via HGS; there is no cash payment at the toll gates. Driving through the wrong lane and traffic fines are charged to the renter's credit card plus a service fee.
- Seat belts and phone: Seat belts are mandatory in all seats; holding a phone while driving is prohibited.
- Alcohol: Damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol is not covered by any protection package.
- Accidents and breakdowns: Do not move the car; complete an accident report or contact the police or gendarmerie, and call our 24/7 line (+90 232 274 12 16).
Renting a car for your summer holiday
July and August are the busiest months for travellers from Germany to İzmir, and demand for cars peaks. If your dates are fixed, book early. For a holiday of three to six weeks, renting for 30 days is often cheaper; for monthly prices, see our İzmir Airport monthly car rental page. You pick up the car at the airport when you land and return it there when you leave.
Travelling with family and lots of luggage? Choose a car with a large boot such as the Fiat Egea, Doblo or Renault Duster; for large families our fleet also includes the 9-seat Fiat Ulysse.
